Reflection #8: fun and GAMES in education?

Gamification and game-based learning is something I was very unfamiliar with up until I began my journey into EdTech. We had the special privilege of listening to Heidi James and one of her students explain the benefits and the uses of Minecraft in education.

Minecraft is a game that I had very little interest in prior to this class. I always regarded it as one of those “video games” that some individuals could spend countless hours on, and takes away from their lives off the screen, no offence. This could still be the case for some, however, seeing the benefits of creating a world through Minecraft was incredibly fascinating to learn about! I feel as though I can now have conversations about it without feeling so lost and unfamiliar with it. I hope I can play it some time in the future so I can perhaps utilize it in the classroom as well, and provide it as an option for students to present their learning.
